If you’re the sort of person who mostly uses their mobile phone for reading books on, or just the sort that wishes they could, here’s something for you.

Developed by a good friend of mine, BookReader allows you to read books, stored as text files, on your mobile phone. What’s intriguing about it, for me, is that it displays the text one word at a time on the screen, so you just stare at the same spot, rather than having to move your eyes to scan the words. What’s doubly intriguing about it is that you can download any of the books from somewhere like The Gutenberg Project and read them whenever you want, or any time when a book is just too bulky a thing to be holding in front of you.

Like when you’re on the train to work, there’s nowhere to sit, you have a coffee in one hand, and a rucksack over one shoulder. Most mornings, in other words.

Not for the first time, I have issues with those lovely alternative types at Apple.

I switched on my iPod mini yesterday, all set to listen to my latest amazing playlist (a selection of classic indie tracks for a Danish friend who’s about to leave the country, and doesn’t know what indie really is, poor guy) only to find that they’d all gone. Together with most of the main menu options, leaving me:

  • Extras >
  • Settings >
  • Shuffle Songs
  • Backlight

Having twiddled with the presentation of this site for a while, I might just add content for little bit, and leave the look alone. I’m a tweaker, though, so I don’t offer any guarantees on that.

At the moment, I’m part-way through adding Stattraq and Most Wanted to the site. Between them, these two nifty plugins allow me to display a list of the most popular posts (or I could customize it to give less popular posts more prominence if I wanted to) amidst the navigation panel on the right.

Since I’m talking to myself until I advertise my blog, no-one’s really visited any pages yet, but just you wait…

Apparently, I do. Or at least I’m capable of becoming one. That’s according to one of the BBC’s online personality tests:

What’s your millionaire potential?

I took the test yesterday with the following result:

Your score is: 21 You’re in the top group - score 17 - 25 You’ve got top-dollar millionaire potential. You’re careful with your money and have a healthy attitude to it. You’re hard-working and determined to be successful.

This will comes as some surprise to many people, not least of all my bank manager, and anyone who’s ever had to lend me a fiver. And everyone else who’s ever met me, in fact.

I haven’t played much poker in a long time, and for some reason right now I have almost no desire to start again. After a few months of intense play earlier in the year, this is something of a shift for me. I’ve gone, in a very short space of time, from playing four tables at a time, 200 hands an hour, for several hours a day, to a month in which I’ve managed probably 300 hands maximum, which is about an hour and a half to two hours of play in all.

I’ve taken it upon myself to develop my own Wordpress theme. Given my general lack of design ability, and incompetence with style sheets, not to mention how new this all is to me, it’s all taking me quite some time, and although I’m starting to feel pleased with the results, there’s still a long way to go. Some views I haven’t touched, some I’ve messed up thoroughly, and nothing’s really finished yet.

And then there are all the plugins to incorporate - when exactly am I supposed to find time to post anything? Still, kudos to the following sites for helping and inspiring me thus far:

And countless others - I’ll credit them all in due time.
