After a mere 7.5K hands, I’ve finally finished the HoldemPoker Beast bonus. So that’s a rather handy $666 into my account, along with a $207 profit from the chase. All I can say is it’s just as well I was bonus chasing, or it would have been a pretty poor $/hr rate
I would cash out from holdempoker, but I see there’s another $100 bonus sitting in there as well. Hey ho - I guess checknraise will have to wait another couple of days…

A foggy north-west ensured I held off Lawro’s challenge last week, which ties the scores at 1-1. For once my faith in Liverpool to produce the goods was completely rewarded, albeit by a dodgy penalty decision and a slightly fortunate cross-cum-shot-cum-loopy thing into the far corner. Note this week how my attention drifts off half-way through, as the commentary runs dry. Next week, look out for the exciting new game - “Predict Mark Lawrenson”, in which I attempt to predict what the pundit’s own predictions will be…

When I started out working off my holdmpoker bonus nearly two months ago, I had no idea what a long hard slog it would be. I also had no idea that when I was about 20% of the way through working off the player points needed to release the full $666 bonus, I’d be an impressive $500 in the hole. That was a fun time, I can tell you. Two weeks ago, one Sunday, I managed to turn a small loss into a huge dent with some pretty spectacular sessions at the 3/6 limit tables. Playing 5 tables at once (how wise, I wonder?) at one point I checked three of the tables and noticed that after 50 hands on each table I had not raked in one single pot. it’s hard to make a living out of those kind of stats, I can tell you. For three or four hours, I just could not showdown a winning hand, or win without showdown, for love nor money.
When I finally called it a night, way later than I should have done, I was not looking forward to a restful night and a cheery morning. Clearly, I couldn’t just stop playing the bonus and cashout there and then. Not only was this my “coming out of semi-retirement” bonus chase, but damnit there was the about £350 waiting for me at the end of it.
I needed a plan!

Oh Empire Online, where did it all go so badly wrong? Not so long ago you were being courted by Sportingbet at around 270p a share, but you were already going steady with Party Poker, and the fact that you had barely any tangible assets at all wasn’t such a problem because PartyGaming was going to look after you. But then, suddenly, one autumnal day, Party decided it was time to go it alone, Sportingbet was just a fading memory, a dream of riches for owner Noam Lanir, and you found yourself with not many friends, and a vastly reduced player base. Business can be such a fickle mistress at times.

Over at the Internet Texas Holdem forum we have a Limit Hand Examples forum where players can post hands they’ve played for comment. To make hands more readable than they come in when you request them from poker sites, there are a couple of hand converters floating around the web that will parse the history and output something more legible.
While I’ve been playing at Holdempoker for the past month or so, I’ve found that none of the converters I’ve used in the past could work with the hand histories from holdempoker, so I decided to set about writing my own.

No time for witticisms this week - just some pure 30 second back of an envelope guesses. Lawro pipped me by one result last week, but let’s see if I can outdo him this time around. I seem to have missed the start of the Wigan v Arsenal game, but I reckon it will be, ooh, I don’t know, 3-2 to the Gooners at half time, and 5-3 at full time.
