Hard disk driveAccording to iTunes, I currently have nearly 30Gb of music that I’ve never listened to…

That’s a mere 7000 files, or three weeks of continuous listening if I cut my sleep back to roughly no hours each night. I’ve decided to tackle this mass of unheard music in bite-size chunks, downloading 50 tracks at a time to my iPod each day. With a bit of luck and application, I’ll have the backlog cleared by this time next year…

Of course, what really connects all these tracks is that they have a play count of zero, which could mean I just haven’t listened to them since I installed iTunes, which must have been around 18 months ago now, or that I’ve listened to part of them, but never got to the end before moving onto the next track. Some of them I’ve never heard of, some I know I’ve listened to but possibly not on my PC, but clearly I need to do something about this. It seems a bit pointless to own all this music and never listen to it. Perhaps I should listen to some of it while I watch Das Boot (purchase date: sometime in 2001, still unwatched).

Today’s overlooked delights included The Auteurs, Black Box Recorder, Badly Drawn Boy, Beautiful South, Belle & Sebastian, Ben Folds and more (yes, it’s another great alpabetical playlist…), and tomorrow’s playlist will be brought to me in association with the letters D, E, and F.

Perhaps I shouldn’t allow myself to buy any more music until I’m more up to date, but that’s difficult with new albums by Death Cab For Cutie among others to get hold of…
